In photographer Bruce Weber’s archive, I would nominate this portrait of an eighteen year old Channing Tatum for best in whatever.

Bruce Weber, Channing Tatum, 2013 for Vanity Fair

There has to be a story on how this happened.  How in the world did Channing Tatum get himself in front of Bruce Weber at age 18 in Georgia?

It was originally published in Vanity Fair surrounded by other pictures collage style.  I asked Kira Pollack, who was in charge of visuals at the magazine for a high res scan, and she asked why.  I told her it was for my locker at school, and she didn’t quite know what to make of that.

Here it is, unencumbered.

I love the suggestion of sex.  It’s just enough tease.  Tatum is so young and fresh, on the cusp as it were, not pretty just present.  Eyes, ears, lips, nipples — framed by trees make for a special “deliverance”.

It is consistently amazing to me how simple is best.
